Joy, a fruit of the spirit

Today’s message is on John 15:11: “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.”

We all have reasons in our life to be grumpy: upsetting news, not feeling well, financial stress and other everyday stresses, really lots about our life can give us a reason to be grumpy. I love today’s verse because it reminds us that God can give us a joy that transcends the things we go through the conditions if we ask Him. We can have what Jesus called, “my joy”. And joy is a fruit of the Spirit of Jesus (Galatians 5:22).

LISTEN TO TODAY’S MESSAGE HERE:

I’ve said this from time to time and that is that no matter what we are going through we can always choose joy. It may sound a bit woo-woo for some people, and trust me I get it. There have been times in my own life where choosing joy is downright hard. I may have not felt like it, or even trying to feel joy, felt wrong. Choosing joy doesn’t mean that we are not honoring how we may be feeling, like experiencing disappointment, regret, fear, hurt, or sadness. For me it just means that through the thick of those feelings, I can choose to feel it and not live in it. I can still feel sad and choose joy. And you may be thinking, Je, that doesn’t even make sense, those are two opposite emotions. But if you had something happen in your life that has left you feeling sad, you can still feel it and still choose not to let it ruin your day. You can choose to smile at your co-worker and choose to do things to help your spirit. This isn’t denying your emotions, for me this is choosing joy.

Today is my Mom’s Birthday. She’s in heaven now, and has been for 16 years now. It still is painful, and a few years ago, I would dread two times every year, and that was her Birthday and the day she went to the Lord. And a few years into her leaving, I realized it was no way to live my life. She wouldn’t want that either. So I shifted from focusing on the sadness that her leaving left my heart, and focused on the things that when she was on the earth plane that she loved to do. It doesn’t deny the fact I feel the way I do, but in spite of it, I can still choose to go play pool, which was one of her favorite things to do, and I can still have joy in my heart. I pray this message blessed you today and reminds you that no matter what you are going through, Jesus offers His joy for you to also have joy.

Today’s power statement: “May I play with joy today and each day forward”

Much love, prayers and some sparkles and sunshine!
