Today’s message is on 1 Peter 5:7: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
Yesterday we shared Job 12:13 and as we learned that Job hung on to God’s strength, and God’s understanding and not on his own. I was thinking about people who are struggling with anxiety. It seems to be so prevalent with people that I coach and mentor. Because let’s face it, many times when we are going through things we think we can handle it until the stress or the overwhelm begins to affect us emotionally, mentally, or even physically. And many times the stress or trauma causes us to have anxiety.
Today’s verse talks about anxiety specifically, and how God cares for us. I want to also offer some things that you can do if you do happen to be struggling with anxiety too. First, the most important thing, is just as we have been discussing the past couple of days, go to God with your concerns, your fear, your pain, and your anxiety. And the next thing I want to suggest is that whatever it is that is giving you the anxiety, you must first shift and change the way that you are seeing the situation. You really can’t skip this step, as well as the first step. Chances are that the anxiety you are feeling is because of the way you see the situation, which then leads to how you feel about it. Anxiety=feeling powerless in the situation. So what struggle are you going through? And does it feel differently to know that God is with you? I will give you a couple of more nuggets for you on tomorrow’s message. Today, focus on the first two. Take your power back in the situation by changing the way that you see it in your mind. Don’t define yourself because of the situation.
Lord, help us to trust You, even when we don’t understand what You’re doing. Thank You for holding us in Your loving hands.
