1 Chronicles 28:20: David also said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the Lord is finished.
As David prepared to hand his throne over to his son Solomon, he explained the burden would be heavy on his shoulders, and I think how Solomon must have felt being faced with all of the responsibilities. Overseeing building the temple, and leading Israel to follow God’s instructions and guarding the land God entrusted them to. Knowing his fear, David offered his son the powerful words in today’s verse. Sharing that being courageous because the Lord is with him.
And I think it’s important to note here, even for us to take for our day and our own journey is that it’s not the confidence or courage on our own but relying on God’s presence and strength with us. Real courage arises when we have faith, and we know that we know that we know that God is with us. We can lean into the strength and the wisdom that God offers. And through that we can also feel the power of bravery. We may not do bold things like Solomon, but in our lives we can face things that seem as scary, or leave us feeling as fearful. So when we face hardship, we sometimes have been taught to talk ourselves through it ‘suck it up’ or ‘toughen up’ and just do it. But I want to encourage you to not edge God out (ego), and remember that God is the one who renews our faith, and he will be with us and His presence calls us to courage. So, what is it that YOU CAN DO, ‘just for today’? Make a small subtle shift in your perspective, your faith, your prayers, or just building that intimate relationship with the Lord. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you. Please share if it’s put on your heart, you never know who is waiting to hear this message today.
