Hey Soul Sister/Brother!
As we enter into 2018, I want to suggest that we try something different this year.
Studies show that approximately 40% of people make New Year’s resolutions, I thought that number was extremely high! Want to know the thing that surprised me more? That only between 8–19% of people actually follow through on fulfilling those promises two years later! This means that 81–92% of people who make New Years Resolutions wind up feeling disappointed with themselves and even feeling like undisciplined losers…
Am I right? I know that in the past when I was playing in that consciousness, it was a trap for me. A self-sabotaging trap!
Most of us have already been on a path of lots of “inner work” trying to work through or heal all of our feelings of unworthiness and any other wounds we inherited during childhood or early adulthood. So why would we want to add insult to injury every New Years?
So this is why I am suggesting something so bold for this New Years! Instead of focusing on all the ways we’re not good enough, or beating ourselves up for all the ways we wish we would change, what if we try loving and accepting ourselves just as we are?
Einstein says insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results and I see my human soul sisters and brothers following traditions and patterns each and every year only to go into repeat mode, or better yet, groundhogs day.
Can you relate?
How about this year, try something new?
Don’t try to stop smoking.
Don’t try to quit drinking.
Don’t try to cut out all of your sugar.
Don’t try to meditate every day.
Don’t try to go all vegan.
Don’t try to lose that 20 pounds you have been saying for a few years now.
And please don’t join the gym……
You are probably wondering why if I am a Transformational Spiritual Teacher would I suggest something so bold? Well, keep hanging with me and let me explain…
“You pay big bucks to weight watchers, but you never follow the program. You sign up for the painting class, but you don’t start painting. You imagine writing the book, but don’t ever start. You sign up for that green juice cleanse and then never use it and continue to eat junk. You pay the $100 every month, but you don’t actually go to the gym. You make a household budget, and then you don’t follow it.”
I think you have the idea. And by the way, this isn’t a beat-up session. If this doesn’t happen to you, stop reading right here, but if you are one of the 81-92% of people that this actually DOES happen to, then may I suggest you don’t set yourself up for failure? Because you deserve better.
Let’s try something different, shall we? It is my thoughts (and experience with clients) that people fail because they are not ready for the change. Ouch! This hurts a bit to say, yet if a person is really ready, change happens. Period. A person may think they are 100% ready for change, but there are things ABOUT THE CHANGE they are not ready to give up or shift.
And guess what? That is ok.
What if you were to accept yourself in a WHOLE NEW WAY THIS YEAR?
What IF you were to love yourself in a WHOLE NEW WAY THIS YEAR?
Why not wait to make a goal until you’re really ready? Not just because the mass is doing it? Until you are 100% on board with your decision to transform, don’t kick the habit. Give yourself permission to be messy sometimes and accept yourself. You may really be surprised I’m saying this. The truth is until you are beyond uncomfortable and truly ready to let go of the things that are keeping you there, you will wind up feeling miserable and disappointed.
Love and accept yourself through your 20 extra pounds, your overspending, your procrastinating, and whatever else that you are thinking about making a resolution for.
Now breathe. Inhale all the way. Exhale and be still.
And please, love & accept yourself just as you are today.
Look in the mirror and honor every little thing you define as a flaw. I did this. I called it radically loving myself. Every stretch mark, age line, or every pound over what I thought I should be. I loved and accepted myself for better or worse. We give this unconditional love to the one we marry, yet don’t offer that to our own self?
When you can accept yourself in such a big and bold way something magical happens. Your light inside somehow ignites bigger, your light actually grows. When you love yourself so much in spite of your imperfections, you will get to a point on some future time, that your love will grow so much, that you make a change because of how much you love yourself. You care so much more about what you are putting in your body and it’s coming from a different place. You care more about your body feeling good because you love it so much. A huge shift happens within.
This won’t come in form of a resolution or come from guilt or shame. It will come from deep self-love, deep self-care, and a true desire for change because of how you feel about YOU. When this happens it’s usually permanent change. When your inner light grows, expands, and begins to take the wheel of your life, the change shows up in a whole new way. All of the things that you are trying to shift in your life, the universe/God bring solutions for you. It’s pretty incredible actually!
PSSSSTTTT… Guess what??? You’re not a loser my soul sibling. You just haven’t fully accepted and loved yourself in such a radical way. And that’s ok. Please forgive yourself, and love yourself through it.
Is your time now?
You are the only one that can answer this. I invite you to make a change for YOU this year.
