Today’s message is on Matthew 5:14: You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.”
We each have choices in how we are going to project ourselves out in the world. Recently I posted that we are 10% of what happens to us and 90% of how we respond to it. God built us each to shine. Matthew 5:14-16 states: “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
I remember one time I heard someone say that they thought I was fake. Because no one could be that nice, I must have an ulterior motive or it’s fake. It hurt me. After time, I allowed it to change how I would normally respond, and even in some certain situations I would get a hardened shell. I think for a minute I even questioned myself too, like, “do I have an ulterior motive? Am I being genuine or am I fake?” This isn’t this person’s fault, because I responded to someone else’s opinion. I could sit here and make excuses for this person. Understanding the life they have had and why they also could be bitter and be the person that says something like that…..
Then one day I realized this truth, that person has every opportunity just like me on how to act and respond to what life dishes out. And going through some of that helped me to accept myself in a much deeper way than I ever had before. So, hearing today’s message, how do you respond to what life has given you? Do you shine light or are you bitter? I want to encourage you today to pray and ask God to work through you. Every day is a new day, and you don’t have to ask anyone permission or you don’t owe anyone an explanation for wanting to be different than you were the day before. And just because someone has an opinion of you doesn’t mean that is your truth. You get to define your truth. Don’t let others affect how you see yourself.
“I am the light of the world”
Much love, prayers and some sparkles and sunshine!
