Gosh, as 2019 comes to a close, many of us do lots of different things as we reflect going into the New Year, would you agree?
We can feel like time is passing us by and feel nervous for the things we didn’t get done, or even beat ourselves up. Just like the quote I recently shared, we overestimate what we can do in one year and underestimate what we can do in ten rings so true if you are in this space of contemplation. I pray that if you are only noticing the things you didn’t get done, that you see the things you DID ACCOMPLISH, no matter how small or insignificant they may seem. You keep believing in yourself.
We also can reflect and see all of our mistakes and give up or feel defeated or we can see them as our stepping stones toward our goals. Wherever you sit with this is completely fine. There is no right or wrong way, yet I do believe there is a productive and a non-productive approach, and I guess that is how I am viewing this now. I have spent times in both, feeling defeated but also feeling grateful for those mistakes. When I think of making those ‘mistakes’ (that really are not mistakes) I can always see the molding process God is doing on me and through me. Not always right away, but over time it begins to be apparent, especially the more I pray about it. So with each passing day and year, I have learned to embrace those ‘failures’. I pray that if you see ONLY your mistakes, that you also remember grace for yourself. Give yourself a hug and know that you are doing good no matter what. Today is a new day and tomorrow is a new year. Clean slate, and you get to create the canvas for a new tomorrow.
We can also just duck our head in the pillow, distract ourselves, or numb ourselves out because we are disappointed with where we may be in life. Gosh, I have been there too. And if you happen to be in this area today or as we end 2019, please give yourself a bigger hug and don’t give up. I pray that you find not only the grace but the forgiveness for yourself or whoever else that is needed so you can stand strong in who you are. Trusting in the plan on your life and what God has for YOU. I am praying for YOU.
Some people don’t like to reflect. They choose to just move forward and as you know better you do better. Again, there is no right or wrong way, and I know that we can get sucked into thinking only of our failures, but for me part of reflecting is ALSO remembering what DID WORK. What went well, and celebrating the tiny micro wins and also the macro wins that brought me through the year.
I have worked on a couple of projects in 2019 that I have forced me to grow immensely in this past year because of them. They both have been incredibly good for me, and have stretched me in ways I would have never known. Often times I can see the things that God is doing through me in others lives but rarely do I get a glimpse of my own life. This year has been a rough one for me, but not that I am complaining, it’s quite the opposite. I feel excited in my belly because I always know that when I have gone through hard things, and I kept pushing, God has always blessed me in many ways.
I want to share my own reflections with you as I was reflecting on the things I had in 2019 that will come with me into 2020. Some of the things I am going to hone in and get better at, and other things are personal ‘notes to self’, all the rest I am saying thank you and goodbye. All of them were things I am grateful for. So here are my own personal golden nuggets and I pray that maybe it will inspire you to create your list too. I would love to hear what yours are too, please comment below and share!
I pray that God blesses you with clarity, strength, endurance, and mostly knowing that you are in no competition, only with your own mindset. Know that you are fearfully and wonderfully made, and take all of your nuggets that were good with you into 2020 and say goodbye and dump the rest in the garbage disposal; Turn it on and listen to it chomp it up 🙂
I don’t think you are reading this by mistake, and as you read know that I am praying for you and holding you close to my heart sending good vibes to you across the miles!
Cheers and blessings in 2020 and beyond my friend! Please share your takeaways and golden nuggets!
