We won’t always understand why we’re going through trials and in today’s verse we know this was the case for Job, who faced unexplainable and massive suffering and loss. Many of us have gone through incredibly hard times and can relate to his pain. Yet despite the many questions that Job had, in chapter 12 he declares that God is mighty and in verse 14 and 16 “What he tears down cannot be rebuilt” and “to him belong strength and insight”. Even further down in verse 23 it says, “He makes nations great, and destroys them”. And even reading this sometimes it can feel so heavy right? And as I read through all of these things that it says God allows, Job doesn’t mention God’s motives or why He sometimes will allow pain and suffering.
Job doesn’t have the answers, and we don’t either. And often times we will question these things and I’m sure there is a time in your life and in your journey where you have questioned it. Recently I was working with a client, who was at her wits end. She felt hopeless, feeling as though she can’t get out of bad stuff happening or things happening in her life, as tragedy seemed to be striking her from many directions. We talked about not always having the answers, and that life can really deal us lemons sometimes, and we can be left with feeling incredibly heavy and burdened. After a few days of prayer and spending time with the Lord, and doing her own journey of reading in our next session, she had a bit of a different perspective. She still was feeling pain, but as she put it, that it was much lessoned, as though God was carrying most of it. She also said that she was able to see from a different lens and that it gave her some relief, and getting out of her own head about the expectations she had.
So, if we think about Job, just like my client, and still despite everything he was facing, he was still able have a bigger understanding that counsel and wisdom belongs to God, as today’s verse says.
We may not always understand why God allows certain struggles in our lives, but like my client and Job, we can put our trust in Him. The Lord loves us, He calms our anxiety because we are in His hands (verse 10; 1 Peter 5:7). Wisdom, power, and understanding are His!
Much love, prayers and some sparkles and sunshine!
