What is your definition of ‘fearing God’? I have found that people have so many different views. Last night in SOULFOOD SUNDAYS, I took a leap into a touchy and uncomfortable topic to discuss. I shared how I felt hurt by ‘religious people’ and the church when it came to how they presented God. As this thought that one must FEAR GOD and be almost paralyzed with fear.

Have you experienced this? Have you been taught to fear God and that you are a sinner and presented in such a way you feel dirty? Well you might want to listen to last nights message HERE so you can hear what I shared about my experience as well.

Another thing that I dug into (I almost feel God tricked me into this one, LOL) as I haven’t wanted to share. God keeps putting it in my heart to talk about it, but I’m being honest here, I have been a ‘scardie cat’ ! What is beautiful though, is each time I go live or record a message that God puts on my heart about false doctrine and being tricked by satan. Yes I said it, Satan. I’m sure my love and light new age friends probably are not going to like hearing that. I won’t get too deep in all of that here in this blog, but I’m sure God will lead me someday to speak more on it.

“Perfected love is the love of God expressing itself in our love to each other.”

With each step I take with the Lord, I receive new layers of strength, courage, and faith (thank you Jesus!). And when I share an uncomfortable message that I am probably not wanting to share but I do it anyway (remember, feel the fear and do it anyway), I always feel afterwards this sort of proud accomplishment and feel like ‘Wow, Je, it wasn’t so bad! What was I even scared of?’. And it’s because God is with me that’s why!

‘God has my back’ and guess what? He’s got yours too!

So in my studies I learned that the Bible uses the word fear at least 300 times in reference to God! That is amazing, right? Clearly God wants us to understand and embrace it instead of doing what I did, which was to run in the other direction!!! The subject becomes even more mysterious when we read something like 1 John 4:18 that says “perfect love expels all fear.” So how do we marry this dichotomy? Hmmmm??? How can we ‘fear God’ while he expels all fear?

Click here to listen to the whole message  We explored 1 John 4, so get your bibles out, your journals, and see what God has for you……

1 John 4:18:

ESV:

There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.

NKJV:

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

NIV:

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

ICB version (International Children’s Bible)

Where God’s love is, there is no fear, because God’s perfect love takes away fear. It is punishment that makes a person fear. So love is not made perfect in the person who has fear.

May you be blessed in your journey today, and my prayer is that it takes you on a journey with deepening your relationship with Christ.

Be Blessed!
