Often times we think its those BIG and GRANDIOSE things that are what matters in life. On social media, we can tend to compare ourselves and make sure to do the ‘thing everyone else is doing’ or ‘doing the thing that coaches are telling us to do’.

I’m a coach, and I’m suggesting to you to not listen to me or anyone else. Gosh, sounds kinda dumb right? Yet, hang with me for a second here….

I was literally having a conversation with my son on the way to school today. We have these soul talks, I love them so much. We were sharing what we each were focusing on for the day, and we somehow got on the topic of worrying about what others think. And for him, we spoke about the feeling of ‘being embarrassed’.

Not only is it something that an 8 year old feels and experiences, but we still experience that as adults right? Even in my Coffee and Tea with Je today I had a surging moment when I looked at the camera and was like ‘girl, your hair is a mess!’. Even though I did brush it and put it up, the truth is, it’s 5 am and I’m not going on for brownie buttons or competing with my hair and clothing, for me it’s a time when I am showing up real. AND because to be honest, I don’t have time unless I get up ALOT earlier, and I am not willing to do that.

As I digress, let me get back to the point….

We feel that we need to DO EVERYTHING everyone is telling us to do, and we do it to a T and only to find out it didn’t work for us. BUT WHY? First, our expectation. Second, we are looking for the magical answers to just fix our problems. If we allow everyone else to have our minds (meaning we are more focused on worrying about what others are thinking and how we are being seen) we are missing the things that matter MOST in doing ‘the work’. Whatever that work is that you are seeing the coach for in the first place. And that is missing those moments of LIFE, of the experience, of the questioning things.

Now, here is where I say, it’s OK TO LISTEN TO A COACH, and follow advice that worked for them. But don’t do it from a place of BEING EXACTLY LIKE THEM, be you. Take what they are telling you, and make it for you. Meaning, take it to YOUR ONE AND ONLY LIFE COACH, and that is God. Yes, take the advice from the worldly life coach and take it to God. It may be perfect, exactly what you need, but make it your own. Make it relevant to you. BE YOU, in your own kind of kick butt, incredible way.

So in essence I am not being contradictory in my message because I tell people all the time everyone needs experts and awesome coaches in their area of life, but don’t give them your mind. Don’t give them full access to take over. Let them serve as a guide not a God. I DO still believe we need that support. I have a few incredible men and women, who I trust, and who are coaches in my life, and I love, value and appreciate each one. I just don’t lose myself in the koolaid. I keep my focus on God, and the more I do that, the less I feel embarrassed.

So I ended with telling my son something similar. I said, Jibril, honey, don’t give people that kind of power over you. Your feelings of embarrassment are totally ok, I feel it too. But take it to your God, and remember that the person that may be judging you is also dealing with their own feelings of embarrassment. But you have to focus on your mind and only allowing yourself in there, knowing WHO YOU ARE and who God created you to be. And he said ‘wow mom’! LOL I’m not sure what that meant but I do love our soul talks. I think next time, it’s his turn to be the teacher.

I hope that by sharing my soul story, that it inspires you to think about your mindset. Who do you allow to have your mind? And I hope it helps you to remember who you are, how powerful you are, and how fearfully and wonderfully God made YOU. Whatever you may be going through in your life, know that God has a plan for you. A purpose. On purpose for a purpose.
